How to Use Calendar Widgets to Plan Your Day on iPhone
Put real event titles and reminders on your iPhone Home Screen with a TapCal widget. Choose a useful layout, set up your lists and see what you can manage without opening the app.
To see and manage today’s schedule without repeatedly opening Calendar, add a TapCal list or agenda-style widget to your iPhone Home Screen. It can show event titles rather than just dots, and supported widgets let you complete reminders from the widget itself. Start by choosing the layout that makes your next commitment easiest to spot, then check that the right calendars and reminder lists are visible. TapCal requires iOS 18 or later. You can check the current iOS requirement in the App Store listing.
Add a TapCal widget to your Home Screen
First, make sure TapCal can access the calendars you want to see. If you use reminders, allow reminder access too. TapCal reads calendars already connected to iOS, so there is no need to move your events into a separate TapCal account.
On the Home Screen, touch and hold an empty area until the icons start to jiggle.
Tap the control to add a widget. Depending on your iOS version or screen arrangement, it may appear in a different place.
Search for TapCal, then swipe through its available widget styles and sizes.
Choose a widget, add it to the Home Screen and tap Done. If you want to change its options later, touch and hold the widget and choose Edit Widget when available.
The iPhone’s widget gallery gives you the shape and size; TapCal’s Widget Settings let you adjust available layout details and preview the result. The options depend on the widget you choose.
Choose the layout for the question you ask most
For a day-to-day check, a list or agenda-style layout is a sensible place to begin. It puts upcoming commitments in sequence, so it is easier to scan “what’s next?” than it is in a calendar grid. Give it enough room to show the appointments you typically need to keep in view.
If your main concern is the shape of the week, try a week widget. A month widget is better for seeing which dates are busy, while a heat-map layout helps you notice how commitments are spread across days. Month & List combines a compact month view with a closer look at upcoming items. TapCal’s current options include month, week, list and heat-map widgets, as well as Month & List. The TapCal Help guide lists the widget types and where to find their settings.
A larger widget usually has more space for titles; a smaller one takes up less of your Home Screen but may show fewer details. Try the smallest size that still makes your schedule readable. If event names are cut short, switch to a larger size or simplify the layout rather than trying to fit every calendar on one screen.
Check that the widget shows the right plans
A widget can only help if it reflects the schedule you mean to see. In TapCal, open Calendars & Lists and check which calendars and reminder lists are enabled. If you use Calendar Sets, check which set the widget is using too. A Work set, for instance, can keep work events and tasks separate from personal plans.
For reminders to appear against a particular day, they need a date. A dated reminder can sit alongside that day’s calendar events; a reminder without a date will not tell the widget which day to show it with. If you cannot see an expected item, check its date, the selected reminder list and the widget’s set before rebuilding the widget.
A worked example: appointments plus one reminder
Imagine a Tuesday with a 9.30 dentist appointment, an 11.00 project call and a 14.00 school pick-up. You also have a reminder to send an invoice at 15.30. With the relevant calendar and reminder list selected, a list-style widget can put those titles in view together. Rather than opening an app just to remember what a coloured mark means, you can scan the names and times from the Home Screen.
If the invoice is finished early, you can tick it off directly from a supported interactive widget. That action is not available on every widget, so use the layout that shows a completion control. To inspect an appointment’s notes, location or other details, tap through to TapCal. The widget is a useful glance at your schedule, not a replacement for the full event screen.TapCal’s App Store notes confirm that reminders can be completed from supported widgets.
What is free, and what may need Pro?
TapCal is free to use with ads and practical limits. Its current feature information does not list adding a basic widget, seeing event titles or completing reminders from supported widgets as features that require Pro. Some advanced controls and other extras are part of TapCal Pro, but the exact feature split can change. Check the plan details in the app before subscribing if you are considering a particular customisation.
For a simple starting setup, add a list or agenda-style widget, enable only the calendars and reminder lists you want to see, then check whether the event titles fit. If your priority is today’s next appointment, put the widget somewhere you naturally look when you pick up your iPhone. Download TapCal from the App Store to set up your own Home Screen view.
