Create, edit, and search in TapCal
TapCal is designed around the month calendar and the selected-day timeline. These are the main actions most people use every day.
Create a new item
- Tap the + button to open the composer.
- Or tap a day once to select it, then tap the same day again.
- Choose the Event or Reminder tab.
Edit from the timeline
- Tap an event in the day timeline to edit it.
- Tap a reminder row in the day timeline to edit it.
- You work directly from the selected day below the calendar.
Search events
- Open search from the main Search button.
- TapCal searches events in visible calendars.
- Search does not search reminders.
Reminder features
Reminders support priority, recurrence, notes, and optional location-based arrival or departure alerts. Arrival and departure alerts require Always location access and are Pro-only.
Calendars and Reminders
Control what TapCal shows and where new items are saved
TapCal shows calendars that already exist on your device through Apple Calendar / EventKit. Use these settings to choose defaults, control visibility, manage subscriptions, and switch between saved calendar sets.
Change defaults and visibility
Choose where new events and reminders go, and which calendars and reminder lists stay visible in TapCal.
- Default calendar
Settings > General Settings > Default calendar
- Default reminder list
Settings > Reminder Settings > Default list
- Visible calendars
Settings > Calendars & Lists > Calendars
- Visible reminder lists
Settings > Calendars & Lists > Reminders
Calendar accounts and subscriptions
TapCal syncs calendar accounts. Accounts are managed in iOS settings, so TapCal does not add them directly.
- TapCal reads calendars from iOS, including iCloud, Google, Outlook/Exchange, Yahoo, and CalDAV.
- Add accounts in Settings > Apps > Calendar > Calendar Accounts > Add Account.
- Add subscription calendar
Settings > Calendars & Lists > Add subscription
Subscription calendars are read-only feeds.
How shared calendars work
- If a shared calendar already appears in Apple Calendar on the device, it can appear in TapCal too.
- That includes iCloud, Google, Outlook/Exchange, Yahoo, and CalDAV accounts configured in iOS.
- TapCal cannot invite people to calendars or create calendar sharing itself.
Calendar sets
- Open calendar sets from the main toolbar Calendar Sets button.
- You can also find them in Settings > Calendars & Lists.
- Save and switch between named calendar sets, with a maximum of 5 calendar sets.
Notifications
How TapCal notifications work
TapCal schedules its own event and reminder notifications. Alert settings live inside TapCal, and event and reminder behavior can be configured separately.
Use per-calendar settings for event alerts, per-list settings for reminder alerts, and separate options for what happens when you tap a notification.
- Per-calendar event alerts
Settings > Calendars & Lists > tap a calendar > Event Alerts
- Per-reminder-list alerts
Settings > Calendars & Lists > Reminders > tap a reminder list > Reminder Alerts
- Event notification tap behavior
Settings > Calendar Settings > Open event editor from notification
- Reminder notification tap behavior
Settings > Reminder Settings > Open reminder editor from notification
