TapCal v1.5 - Smarter Events, Better Widgets, and Bug Fixes

v1.5 focuses on improving how events behave, how widgets can be customised, and fixing of bugs!

There are a few new features here, but most of the value comes from making things feel more reliable and easier to use day to day.

✨ What’s New

Attendees in Edit Event (Read-Only)

You can now view attendees directly in the Edit Event screen.

There’s a dedicated view showing attendance details, so you can quickly see who’s going, declined, or hasn’t responded.

This is read-only (due to Apple API limitations), but it makes shared events much clearer.

Tappable Links in Notes

Notes now detect URLs across:

• Edit Event

• Reminders

• Subscriptions

Links are now tappable, and longer notes include Show More / Show Less controls so they don’t take over the screen.

Small change, but it makes notes much more usable.

List Widget Customisation

The list widget now has proper customisation options inside Widget Settings.

You can now control:

• Event title size

• All-day event collapsing

• Hiding past timed events

• Hide Reminders

• Highlight current day events

This gives you more control over how much information you want to see at a glance.

Contact Integration for Events

Birthday and contact-based events can now open the linked contact card directly from event details.

Tap the event, and you can jump straight into the contact.

🔐 New Permission

Optional Contacts Access

You can now allow Contacts access to enhance event details.

This enables:

• Contact profile cards for event guests

• Contact-based birthday event integration

It’s completely optional and only used to improve how events are displayed.

🐞 Bug Fixes

This update includes a number of fixes, especially around subscriptions and natural language parsing.

Subscriptions

• Fixed subscription event notes not always displaying

• Fixed context menu issues and formatting on the subscription view

Natural Language Improvements

A number of edge cases have been fixed so event creation behaves more predictably:

• Time ranges like 8am-11am no longer change the event date

• Explicit dates like March 18 no longer roll into the next year incorrectly

• Ambiguous dates now anchor to when the Add Event screen was opened, not “today”

• Fixed false date detection from normal words like mayhem or marching

• Fixed false time-zone detection from words like test or best matching things like EST

• Overnight ranges like 11pm-1am now correctly span past midnight

Widgets and UI Fixes

• Fixed month widgets opening the app on the 1st of the month instead of today

• Fixed the Add Event calendar picker briefly loading misaligned before snapping into place
